Dealing
With Depression: Positive Affirmations
Dealing
with depression can be challenging on a daily basis. But if
you
keep the following positive affirmations in mind, they give your mood
an instant lift...
When
a person is depressed, it is very easy for them to only focus on the
"negative" or "bad" things or situations in their life...
...it really
is a struggle to see good in anything and to be positive.
That is
why I have a big white board at home where I paste heaps of positive
affirmations to assist me in dealing with depression.
Just
in case you don't know, the fancy definition of the word "affirmation"
is something declared to be true ie a positive statement or judgment.
But I
like to keep things simple, so I think of my positive affirmations as
positive
phrases or sentences that I repeat many times to jump start
my mind and trigger it into a positive state.
To put it even more simply, my thoughts effect my feelings!
Let me share with you my Top
10 Most
Powerful Positive Affirmations that I make sure to read EVERYDAY
to assist me in dealing with depression.
Are
you important? There are more than 6 billion people in the
world. Most don't know you any more than you know them.
And this is not ever likely to change. So, what
makes you
special?
Other, perhaps than the fact that there's only one
you.
And that, not only are you unique, you are precious.
Your
thoughts and deeds have a far greater influence than you can imagine.
Don't just be
yourself
today. Be proud of yourself.
And DON'T sell yourself short!
I CAN do this!
Don't sweat the small stuff.
RELAX!
If I don't love myself, how the
heck can I love someone else?
When I change the way I
think, I can change my life.
How
important will this argument, disagreement or event be in 5 years time?
Live in the moment, NOW!
My
depression is not a sign of weakness, it is a real medical illness that
can be treated.
I am lovable and capable of being
loved.
No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.
- Eleanor
Roosevelt
These positive affirmations
encourage and help me to feel that I am not alone.
If
you know someone who is struggling with depression, suggest that they
post some sticky notes on their fridge, mirror, or bedroom wall -
somewhere where they are a constant reminder that the person is loved,
has worth, deserves to be happy and most of all, can lead a normal
life, despite having depression.
Of course, positive
affirmations are just one part of dealing with depression...
...but they are very powerful and they work to
shift a person out from the dark cloud.
